Winners!

I have a few winners of recent giveaways to announce which I meant to do a few days ago.  I got a little waylaid by real life which seems to happen pretty frequently lately.  I love doing reviews and being part of tours but I think the time has come to take a step back and take a little break-not a permanent one but just for a little while. Considering all I have read this year are review books, my own 1,400+ collection remains sadly neglected and my librarian was surprised to see me after several months of not being there when I used to go every other weekend-all of this just tells me its time.  No more review copies/tours for me for the rest of this year no matter how badly I think I want to read it.

Part of my decision has to do with the enormous amount of time and energy I put into my rescue work and fostering of cats and kittens.  Just recently I took on this little guy:

His name is Lazarus and he was found hanging by his back leg from a fence which he had to be cut out of by the people who found him.  Unfortunately, the leg couldn't be saved but the important part is we saved him and as soon as he is all better we'll find him a home.

I also brought home these three cuties plus their momma on Tuesday because they needed a foster home.  We have been inundated with kittens and cats these past couple months and all of our fosters are completely full.  How could I say no to these adorable little faces?  Mom who is not pictured is named Calpurnia.  Her baby boys are Jem (kitty in back), Atticus (kitty w/spot on nose) and Boo Radley (fluffy kitty).

I also have 4 other adult fosters and 4 cats of my own to take care of.  Time is lacking because I work 30 hours a week and every Saturday and Sunday I am out at Petco doing adoptions all day long.  I also have an energetic eight year old who has been wonderful about helping mom with all the kitties. It may be a lot of work but if I didn't have bills to pay rescue work is what I would do full time.  I've never been so worn out in my life but the kitten kisses more than make up for it. So there you have it-I'll still be posting about what I'm reading but after I finish this current batch of review books I am done til 2014!

Now on to the winners!

The winner of Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole is:

tcking6!

The winner of The Queen's Rivals by Brandy Purdy is:

Angela H!

Congrats!  Winners have been notified by email.

One other note-I have a ton of updates to add to the upcoming historical fiction pages so check back Sunday night to find out what new releases are coming out for the rest of this year and 2014.

  1. Bless you for your good work with the kitties. All three of my babies are rescues (one from the pound, one from my vet and one from the VA Siamese Rescue)and I would be lost without them. Foster mom's are very special people.

  2. This is a wonderful job you are doing. To foster and then find homes for these animals is such a lot of work and on top of your usual schedule its tough. Good luck with the foster homes.

  3. It's kitten season here, too. Sigh. But it's lovely to think of the model of compassion and caring you're providing your eight year old. That's a priceless lesson.
