Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at A Girl and Her Books. Mailbox Monday is currently on tour and this month it is making its home at Metroreader.
This week I got a few goodies:
From Paperbackswap:
- The Anatomist's Apprentice by Tessa Harris
- Jarrettsville by Cornelia Nixon
- Madame Bovary's Daughter by Linda Urbach
- Three Maids for a Crown by Ella March Chase
Next week is my b-day and hubby just said to go ahead and order some books I wanted. So, he's taking the easy route this year but at least I'm getting books!
Ordered from Book Depository in celebration of the upcoming big 3-0:
- Holy Warrior by Angus Donald
- Killer of Men by Christian Cameron
- King's Man by Angus Donald
- Marathon by Christian Cameron
- Warlord by Angus Donald
Three of those are pre-orders so I will be waiting a bit before they actually get here but I already paid for them so I'm counting them :)
From my Local UBS which was having a buy 3 get 1 free sale this weekend:
- The Kommandant's Girl by Pam Jenoff
- Middlemarch by George Eliot
- The Mistress of Nothing by Kate Pullinger
I ended up getting Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for my son as the freebie :)
I actually got offered a job at this bookstore while I was there. Another customer came in and said "I have a couple books I want but only know the title not the author."
Owner: "Well if you have the titles I'll be able to look up the author and see if we have it."
Other Customer: "The first one is called The Kitchen House."
Me: "Kathleen Grissom"
Owner: "Thanks! That would have taken me a minute."
Other Customer: The other one is One Thousand White Women."
Me: "Jim Fergus"
Owner: "Wow! You're good! Do you want a job here?"
If only my answer could have been a resounding YES but I doubt they would pay me as much as my current job.....
Finally, from NetGalley for review:
- Glow by Jessica Tuccelli
That's it for me this week. Hopefully everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day!
I quite liked The Kommandants Daughter when I read it not long ago. I have the follow up book here to read soon too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice pile of reading. I am in the middle of Middlemarch (have been for a while and not moving forward!).
ReplyDeleteMy husband likes to take the easy route when it comes to gift giving too, so I can relate. At least we get what we want that way! Enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeleteI love Pam Jenoff! Her books were recommended to me by a reading friend and I was pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteThe go ahead to buy books is a wonderful option. Like gift certificates, some people think it is cold and unfeeling but I love them You can get what YOU want. Looks like you made some great choices. Happy birthday a little early and enjoy all your new books.
ReplyDeleteYour books sound great, they are right up my alley. Enjoy!
DeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteWorking in a bookstore does sound like a dream job, but I'm sure the image I have in my head wouldn't match the reality. Those look like wonderful book choices. Enjoy!
Oooh, Madame Bovary's Daughter! I read and reviewed that back in the summer. I enjoyed reading the novel, but I could have done without all the sexual content.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I noticed a trend per where you bought the books - for The Book Depository, I thought, 'Gee - these are all about men and war' and then I noticed that they were mostly the same author so I guess that makes sense and then the next grouping was mostly female in title/theme. Interesting, I guess. I haven't heard of any of these. Enjoy!
