Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday is a place to share all the goodies you got in your mailbox for the week and peruse others mailboxes to see their goodies (and to find awesome new blogs that will make your wishlist explode). Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at the Printed Page. Marcia has decided to spread the Mailbox Monday love and send it on tour. This month it is being hosted by Jenny at Let Them Read Books.

From PBS:
  • These is my Words by Nancy Turner
  • His Last Letter by Jeane Westin

From my Secret Santa at the PBS Historical Fiction Forum:
  • The Falcons of Montabard by Elizabeth Chadwick
  • The House at Riverton by Kate Morton

That's it for the books. Like our hostess, our household is also going on a baking binge today. Hubby is making all kinds of cookies and I am making a 3rd batch of what our family calls "Fiddle Faddle" (or what normal people call Chex Mix). I do this every year and give tins of it out to family/coworkers.

Here is our variation:
SAUCE:
1 tbsp garlic
1/2 bottle of La Choy Soy Sauce
1.5 stick or 1 c butter
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Melt together on stove and let cool. Then transfer to spray bottle.

MIX:
1 box each of wheat chex, corn chex, rice chex
1 bag of pretzels
1 bag of bugles
1 can peanuts/mixed nuts (optional)

Put in large bag and mix together. Spread out on table and spray. Flip it over with hands and spray again. Load into roaster pan spraying occasionally. Bake 5 minutes at 350 then turn it so the stuff on bottom is now on top. Bake another 3-5 minutes until mix is dry then take out and let cool. Thats pretty much it. It's easy and yummy but kind of time consuming.

My husband has me put caramel corn and honey roasted peanuts in his to give it a sweeter taste.

WARNING: Making this may cause you to eat several bags before you realize it and gain 10 lbs in the process. Okay, maybe that's just what happens to me but enjoy!

  15. I received for review Out of Touch by Brandon Tietz from the author.

Twenty-four-year-old Aidin, a wealthy socialite and self-proclaimed "club god," lives a magazine life based on decadence and excess that includes drugs, sex, and gourmet food. It's a life based on surfaces in a place where the surface is all that matters. His therapist later describes him as a materialistic drug addict bent on promiscuity with self-esteem and identity issues. One morning, after a night of heavy partying, Aidin awakes completely vacant of any sensation. He can't feel temperature. He can't feel pressure. He can't feel anything. After a near-fatal stint in denial, he seeks the help of Dr. Paradies, a therapist whose methods are far from conventional. She provides him with a new addiction in the form of a life list--a litany of activities to accomplish. As Aidin completes his list, he discovers talents he never knew he possessed, such as the ability to quickly learn new languages, an IQ off the charts, and amazing physical stamina. With these new discoveries, he questions his doctor's intentions. When Aidin digs for the truth, will he slip back into his addictive habits? Or is there truly a conspiracy underway, as he suspects? The answer forces him to make a life-altering decision.
