So where have I been?

It's been about 2 weeks since my last post and I have a good excuse... honest! I was on a much needed 10 day vacation. Guess where? I'll give you a hint....

We dropped the boy off with the grandparents in NY and headed down to Philadelphia to pick up my friends and then it was off for 3 blissful days in Washington DC. Unfortunately the book shopping was a bust here but I got to visit lots of the places I didn't get to see on the last trip there in 2008. We stayed in National Harbor and although it was a little bit of work to get from there to DC to sight see it was gorgeous. I will post some more photos from the trip on Sunday. After the 3 days there we dropped our friends back off in Philly and headed back to NY to spend some time with the family before heading back to the mitten state. While in NY I was able to do a little more book shopping. I headed off to Oblong books in Millerton, NY and while I liked it, I didn't find a lot of books that I didn't already have. I decided to punch books into ye olde GPS and it came up with Rodger's Book Barn in Hillsdale, NY. I thought I'd check it out so off I went and 20 minutes later I thought the GPS had abandoned me in the wilderness. It took me on many twists and turns through the mountains and finally onto a dirt road that looked like it led nowhere but I finally did stumble across the Book Barn and I'm so glad I did. This is it.....

A quaint little place in the middle of nowhere. I stepped inside and it was floor to ceiling books at dirt cheap prices! I walked out there $35 poorer and 12 books richer. If you are ever in this neck of the woods do check it out. One of my favorite things to do on vacations is discovering hidden gem UBS's like these.

Of course travelling from Michigan to New York to Philadelphia to DC and back again gave me loads of time in the car to read. I finished The Passage by Justin Cronin right before I left and finished To Be Queen by Christy English while I was gone.

So stay tuned later this week for:
  1. My review of The Passage on friday
  2. My review (+ giveaway!) of To Be Queen on Saturday
  3. Pics galore of the DC trip and update on the Chivalrous Deeds Challenge on Sunday
  4. The revealing of my book spoils on Monday
I am just about finished with The Masque of the Black Tulip by Lauren Willig and should have that one reviewed on Tuesday.

Hope everyone has been enjoying some beautiful weather. I'm loving being able to have the windows open. Yay fresh air! I've been super busy playing catch up at work and here around the house but it is nice to be back :)

  2. Looks like you had fun! I really want to go to DC for the National Book Festival in September, but I don't know if I'll be able to afford it.

I know what you mean about finding hidden little bookstores like that! I found one in my city last week, it was awesome!
